Volunteer with Us: Make an Impact in Hospice Care

At High Desert Hospice, we hold our volunteers in the highest regard, acknowledging the significant impact they make in the lives of our patients and their families. Our volunteers are integral to our mission, providing essential companionship, support, and community outreach. Below is an outline of the volunteer roles and the professional standards we uphold in our program:

Key Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Patient Companionship: Engage with patients through supportive tasks such as reading, assisting with errands like shopping, or simply enjoying meaningful conversations.
  • Bereavement Support: Offer solace and encouragement to those grieving, helping them navigate through their journey of loss.
  • Community Awareness: Represent hospice care at health outreach centers and fairs, informing the public about the benefits and services of hospice care.
  • Therapeutic Support: Participate in the delivery of various therapies, including pet and music therapy, to enhance patient comfort and well-being.
  • Event Coordination: Assist in the organization and execution of community outreach events to promote hospice care and support services.
  • Administrative Assistance: Support the hospice team in administrative duties within our offices to ensure seamless operations.
  • Legacy Projects: Contribute to the creation of commemorative videos that celebrate and honor the memories of patients who have passed.

Volunteer Time Commitment:

Our volunteers are afforded the flexibility to choose their hours post-completion of a comprehensive training program. Whether you can spare a few hours each month or are able to commit to a more consistent presence, we value your time and dedication. We strive to accommodate your work preferences and integrate you into areas of our service community where your contributions will be most impactful.

Training and Certification:

To equip our volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge, we provide a robust training program led by experienced healthcare professionals. These sessions not only prepare you for your role but also offer the opportunity to engage with fellow volunteers, fostering a sense of community and support. Upon completing two five-hour training sessions, volunteers receive a Hospice Volunteer Certification, symbolizing their readiness to provide compassionate care.
